This poster analyses the dialogue of how certain unsolicited advice can easily escalate to gender based violence. I want to actively denounce the notion that street harassment is culturally accepted and that victims somehow "deserve" it because of their clothing, actions or attitudes.
The final design was printed on pink silk fabric to counteract that women must negate from wearing "sexy" clothing to avoid street harassment. I used variations of the same type family to mimic the temperament of the victimisers’ language. The word ‘Smile’ is made bold and this sets the tone for the rest of the language used.
Usually, catcalling starts with some form of command, even if the content is light. Then the monologue starts. As the type gets bigger, and certain words are emphasised, you can sense the threat of violence becoming more and more apparent. This is a very personal project I created because of an issue that affects most women all throughout their lives.
